  • Brake drum – These components have an attachment to the axle and wheel
  • Lining – This component is the most useable part of the system. It has a hard material that rubs against the rub and attaches to the brake shoe with rivets.
  • Retracting spring – The spring retracts the shoe to the original position to prevent contact between the lining and the drum
  • Expander – The mechanism slides the brake shoe towards the brake drum and exerts a force that presses the shoe towards the drum
